SpheriKal
Water drop shot -- I timed it so that the drop sat on the surface, the sphere is acting like a lens. I used two day glo posterboards as the backdrop. Stop shot trigger used for drop dispensing and to control the flashes. Two SB-800 flashes used, one on either side.
Double_Day-Glo_Madness
One of my first double drop collision shots. I used two day glo posterboards as the backdrop. Stop shot trigger used for drop dispensing and to control the flashes. Two SB-800 flashes used, one on either side.
Anti_Reflection
Water drop shot -- inverted. I used two day glo posterboards as the backdrop. Stop shot trigger used for drop dispensing and to control the flashes. Two SB-800 flashes used, one on either side.
Pristine
This is a cool crown splash effect, and the splash is also reflected nicely in the water in front. Setup: - Drop making rig is set above a large bin of water. A drop is created and captured as it makes a cool splash effect. - Two - SB-800 flashes are set to each side, one gelled blue, the other is gelled red. - Hiviz Schmitt photogate trigger with delay circuit used to trigger flashes. - Picasa used for light levels and cropping.
Take_me_to_your_Liter
Alien life form -- looking for intelligent life here -- will he find any? Strobist / setup: - High speed photo of water drop falling into plastic storage bin filled with water. - Two gelled SB-800 flashes used, one yellow and one orange. Bounced off of white foamboard behind dish. - I had two books setup on either side as gobos, this caused the eyes of the alien. - Hiviz Schmitt photogate trigger with delay circuit used to trigger flash. - Drops were produced by connecting a solenoid to a power supply and momentary switch. This let me produce (mostly) repeatable drops.
Wedding_Cake
Looks like a happy couple on top of a wedding cake. Setup: - Drop making rig above a small piece of 3/4 " PVC pipe, sealed at one end and filled with water. - Water in pipe is dyed blue. - Two - SB-800 flashes are set to each side, one gelled blue, the other is gelled red. - Background is another SB-800 bounced off white poster board. - Hiviz Schmitt photogate trigger with delay circuit used to trigger flashes. - Errant drops removed with Picasa, but "happy couple" is captured with only light level adjustments.
Party_of_f_One
Party on fun one! Strobist / setup: - High speed photo of water drop falling into plastic storage bin filled with water. - Two gelled SB-800 flashes used, one yellow and one orange. - I put some birthday wrapping paper on the foamboard and it made a cool pattern. - Hiviz Schmitt photogate trigger with delay circuit used to trigger flash. - Drops were produced by connecting a solenoid to a power supply and momentary switch. This let me produce (mostly) repeatable drops.
Rough_Seas
This poor dude is getting tossed about by some rough seas! The blue color in this shot is done completely with light - no dye or photoshop used! Strobist / setup: - High speed photo of a water drop falling into a square glass filled to the brim with water. - Two gelled SB-800 flashes used, one orange and one blue. The orange gelled flash was reflected off a white foamboard background and illuminated the background. and can be seen through the glass. - The blue gelled flash was used to reflect light off the top surface of the water -- the blue is entirely from the flash, no dye or coloring was added to the water. - Hiviz Schmitt photogate trigger with delay circuit used to trigger flash. - Drops were produced by connecting a solenoid to a power supply and momentary switch. This let me produce (mostly) repeatable drops. - Used Picasa to crop, adjust light levels and added some saturation.
